Inhaled insulin for the early detection of lung cancer.

چکیده
Early lung cancer detection may save lives but is controversial [1]. Recently a study appeared documenting improved survival of early lung cancer detected with spiral CT [2]. Biochemical methods of early lung cancer detection have been developed. For example, measurement of an autoantibody response to one or more tumor-associated antigens in an optimized panel assay provides a sensitive and specific blood test to aid the early detection of lung cancer [3]. Early lung cancer can also be detected by obtaining fluid and tissue samples. Respiratory tract material, including sputum or bronchial fluid or other pulmonary tissue or thoracic cells or regional lymph nodes, is assayed with monoclonal antibodies for antigens whose enhanced presence correlates with the development of lung cancer [4]. Surface enhanced laser desorption/ionization (SELDI) mass spectrometry has been used to identify five distinct potential lung cancer serum biomarkers with high sensitivity and specificity [5]. Very small malignant lung tumors might be detected by allowing the subject to inhale powdered insulin, preceded and followed by measurement of circulating hormones, growth factors, and receptor proteins in the blood, particularly those that lung tumors are known to produce:

Detection of lung cancer using CT images based on novel PSO clustering
Lung cancer is one of the most dangerous diseases that cause a large number of deaths. Early detection and analysis can be very helpful for successful treatment. Image segmentation plays a key role in the early detection and diagnosis of lung cancer. K-means algorithm and classic PSO clustering are the most common methods for segmentation that have poor outputs. In t...

Introduction: Lung cancer is the most common and most deadly cancer in most of countries of the world. One of the most significant problems with this cancer is the lack of accurate and specific statistics about the prevalence and mortality rate in Iran. Results of cancer registry program in 2008 in Iran indicated a low incidence rate of lung cancer. However, these statistics...

متن کاملCirculatingMiR-10b, MiR-1 and MiR-30a Expression Profiles in Lung Cancer: Possible Correlation with Clinico-pathologic Characteristics and Lung Cancer Detection
Circulating microRNAs have been recognized as promising biomarkers for the detection of lung cancer. The objective of this study was to evaluate miR-10b, miR-1 and, miR-30a in the plasma samples of lung cancer patients to confirm any possible relevance in the early detection of lung cancer. Plasma samples from 47 non-small-cell lung cancer patients and 41 cancer-free subjects were evaluated for...

Background: Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers around the world, and a major cause of death. The KRAS and NRAS genes could cause malfunction in signal transduction and cell cycle regulation. Materials and Methods: In this study, the expression level of KRAS and NRAS biomarkers among 50 lung cancer patients in comparison with 50 normal individuals was investigated. Total RNA from blo...
